The First Edition of the Malta International Photo Awards received submissions from all over the world across the five categories of Abstract, Cities, Nature, People and Storytelling.

The Whale's Mouth Cloud

This amazing scene was shot in South Dakota during a storm chase in the United States. This weird cloud is called The Whale’s Mouth, and appears when the first gust front of a storm is passing over.

A huge Great White Shark has her jaws wide open after breaching the surface off the coast of Guadalupe Island in Mexico. The big female Great Whites can reach an impressive length of 6m for a weight up to 1 ton, making them much bigger than males.

The Spirit of the Ocean

Dolphins are real spirits of the ocean. Interactions with them fill us with pure happiness and tranquillity. However, such interactions should only happen in open sea where they belong to. In captivity, they suffer a lot and often commit suicide.

This photograph was taken from the deck of a cruise ship on the Nile River in Egypt. It shows an incidental scene at the banks of the Nile, which disappeared within a few seconds. It is reminiscent of days 2,000 years ago.
