Malta International Photo Award 2019 /2020
NOTE
Any claims in regards to the winning submissions for this edition of the Malta International Photo Award can be sent on info@maltaphotoaward.com by no later than Tuesday 28th July 2020 at 18:00 CET for internal review. Our team will evaluate each claim to ensure that the MIPA terms and conditions have been adhered to. After this deadline, the selected entries will be considered as final and no further changes would be possible. It is also expressly forbidden to utilise any image or photograph found on this page and the rest of the MIPA website, and MIPA together with the photographers reserve the right to any action for any unlawful use of such photos and/or imagery.
With thousands of submissions from all over the world, we are proud to finally announce all the winning photos across the six categories of Abstract, Cities, Everything Malta, Nature, People and Storytelling, as part of our latest Malta International Photo Award Edition 2019/20.

Black and White night shot from the Opera House in Dubai. The Opera House is locatied within the The Opera District in Downtown Dubai. The project was completed in August 2016 and the Opera House can be converted into a traditional theatre. concert hall, banquet hall or exhibition space.

Human on Earth

The photo shows a city pool in the photographer's hometown of Rybnik photographed in winter. An aerial shot capturing the snow covered water park, portraying a different outlook about the impact of man on the natural world around us.

Nueva Venecia
JAVIER ARCENILLAS
The people who were resurrected to magical realism. New Venice is a palafito town off the Marsh of Santa Marta, between Cartagena and Santa Marta, the two main cities of the Colombian Caribbean. Its 3,000 inhabitants live isolated from tourism and life in general. All necessary transfers are made by boat. The origins of the city go back to several centuries ago, but the reference to the Italian sister city only goes back a few decades.

Berlin Cyclist

This image was taken in Berlin, at Marie-Elisabeth Luders-Haus, in September 2019. The shot captures the exact moment an early-morning cyclist passed in front of the middle of building, characterised by a perfect circle on the side facing the river Spree.

The Delinquents
YVES DEMERS PARIS
At 165 metres high with a 45-degree angle, the Montréal Tower is the tallest inclined tower in the world. It is an architectural masterpiece, and the secret to its extraordinary tilt can be found in its complex internal structure. A glass-encased funicular leads to a breathtaking two-minute ride to the top of the Tower.

Metro without People

The photo shows the metro station Elektrozavodskaya, Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line of the Moscow metro, part of a photo project 'Metro without People' in which the photographer shot all the metro stations that would show the beauty of architecture and engineering.

Sighnaghi Covered by the Winter
MAGDALENA KONIK
The photo was taken a few minutes before the sunset with a view on the smallest Georgian town and covered by clouds Alazani Valley. Winters in this region often last for several days. The photo was captured during a sudden drop in temperature after a few days of snowfall.

The Imprint, designed by MVRDV architects, is a very playful place for architecture photography due to its unusual look and impressive colours. Taken in Seoul, South Korea in November 2019.

Liverpool
MARK BOYD
The photographer has always known Liverpool to be a city of kind, good natured and funny people. They will laugh with you, at you and at themselves. The Liverbird Building in the background is Liverpools ‘Eifel Tower or Leaning Tower of Pizza’. He decided to try and capture the love and fun he feels for Liverpool by filling the frame with a recently erected fairground ride with the Liver Building in the background. A very different ‘city shot’.
